Trichy: Minister Encourages Students to Learn Foreign Languages for Overseas Jobs
Trichy: Higher education minister P Vishwanathan has said students should learn international languages such as French and German to access well-paying blue-collar jobs that have numerous openings abroad. He was speaking at a graduation event at a college in Trichy on Sunday.

Higher Education Minister P. Vishwanathan has encouraged students to learn foreign languages such as French, German and Japanese to improve their access to well-paying blue-collar job opportunities overseas.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at a college in Trichy on Sunday, the minister said that language skills could significantly improve employment prospects for students seeking work abroad.
“Learning international languages such as Japanese, German and French can open up many job opportunities. There are numerous blue-collar positions available overseas, and the Higher Education Department will support efforts to help skilled students secure employment abroad,” he said.
Vishwanathan clarified that his comments should not be seen as support for the Union government’s three-language policy. He said the state government remained firmly opposed to it.
The Congress minister also praised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, saying Tamil Nadu had undergone a “silent revolution” led by a leader accepted by young people. He said the youth supported a political culture centred on decency, non-violence and freedom from corruption.
HR&CE Minister S. Ramesh, who also addressed the gathering, urged students not to be discouraged by failure. He said social media often highlights only success stories, while overlooking the setbacks people face before achieving their goals.
“Failure is never permanent. Everyone who succeeds has faced failure at some stage,” he said.
Ramesh also spoke about his modest family background, noting that his parents continue to work despite his position as a minister. He said his mother still works for a salary, while his father earns ₹3,000 a month.
Responding to reporters about a viral video of him dancing, Vishwanathan said there was nothing wrong with celebrating Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s birthday.
Meanwhile, in the Srirangam constituency, Minister Ramesh accused the DMK of running a campaign claiming that he was unavailable to voters. He said such allegations would not affect his role as an MLA or minister, and displayed documents listing grievances he had addressed in the constituency.
